– Fourier transform used to analyze signals by converting signals into a continuous series of sine and cosine functions, each with a constant frequency and amplitude, and of infinite duration – Real world signals (images) have a finite duration and exhibit abrupt changes in frequency – Wavelet transform converts a signal into a series of wavelets – In theory, signals processed by wavelets can b...

1. Introduction Wavelets are acquiring a visibility and popularity that may soon be on the scale rst enjoyed by fractals a few years back. Like fractals, wavelets have attractive and novel features, both as mathematical entities and in numerous applications. They are often touted as worthwhile alternatives to classical Fourier analysis, which works best when applied to periodic data: wavelet me...

corporation in engineering standards for image compression. At high ratios (greater than 20:1 for gray scale) images computed using the standard compression method (a discrete cosine transform and approximation of the Fourier coefficients) begin to look bad. The iconic image of Lenna, who graces three sets of pictures in the text, shows just how much better wavelets can preserve features that t...
متن کاملp-adic Shearlets
The field $Q_{p}$ of $p$-adic numbers is defined as the completion of the field of the rational numbers $Q$ with respect to the $p$-adic norm $|.|_{p}$. In this paper, we study the continuous and discrete $p-$adic shearlet systems on $L^{2}(Q_{p}^{2})$. We also suggest discrete $p-$adic shearlet frames. Several examples are provided.
